I had a natural science class today, "Topics in Genetic Engineering." I'm actually really excited, since genetics is one of the scientific fields that I find genuinely interesting. Yeah, genes! My teacher is pretty neat; she's been in the field for a long time and is passionate about what she's teaching.
Then I went to a class that I was waitlisted for; a contemporary art theory class that sounded very cool. Alas, it was also super full, so I went to see what else I could get and now on Monday mornings I have a literature seminar on emails from soldiers in Iraq. Yeah. I'm in school from eight in the morning til' 5 in the evening on Mondays now (I also have a Time Arts, aka video, class from 11-5) ... Fortunately, there is a schoolwide lunch break from 12:30 until 1:30. Good deal, food time.
Today I met my crazy person again. I probably shouldn't use the possessive, since a) he's a human being and b) I don't really ever want to have to speak to him again. It's not so bad to have a crazy acquaintance, but he's kind of a creeper. Like, kind of spittle-y and kept trying to hug me for no particular reason, other than creepiness. The two time's I've spoken to him he's told me about how he wants to go back to Alaska (he's actually from there; showed me his ID...), how his mother's ex-husband stole their ranch, and how he would do anything for his mother. Nice sentiments, but the poor man is either on something or genuinely crazy.
I went to Goodwill, but they didn't have anything good so I moved on to aimlessly walking around in the sun. I then continued my grocery binge and bought even more unnecessary (but delicious) groceries. Actually, let me backtrack. Prior to Trader Joe's binge, I stopped into this mysterious thrift store where they had marvelous, INCREDIBLY cheap things, and lots of them. I couldn't help myself and bought a sweet new-looking lynx beanie baby for 50 cents. Also, two nice chair cushions, a scarf, and a paperback. For once buying useful things and impulse things blended into a harmonious acceptance of consumption and I didn't break the bank or get guilt-ridden over it.
This chair cushion is making my butt feel marvelous.
