I was going to be good...

...but instead of doing work I ate a bunch and watched Best In Show. I have to go back out into the cold, though, so I can get to the thrift store and pick up some cheap fabric scraps to make the box for my fake monograph project. For time arts we're "reinventing the book," so for some reason I decided this would be a good time to create a false scientific study of various false flora and fauna. I haven't decided on the official concept yet. It's either going to be poking a fun at Creationism, with a lost isle of pre-Biblical flood creatures being studied by a nineteenth century style kook, or a collection of mythical (created or "real") animals. I'm really into manufactured histories/mythologies, so I think this will be fun. It also, officially speaking for the class presentation, plays off of the idea that technically you can put whatever you want into print: it's about ideas being misrepresented and misinterpreted. Maybe it will be a second-hand monograph, made with gathered information. Also, I really like the word monograph.

More later. I have to get out and back before it gets dark.

Edit: 7:16. I went to my favorite thrift store and bought some fancy satin/velvet/taffeta fabric remnants for my project. I also purchased some old national geographics and two green tumblers. What a great word, tumbler. It seems to have nothing to do with the object it represents. A stationary drinking glass versus a rolling, leaping person.
Portland is very mossy. I walked by a dentist's office that had many globules of moss clinging to the roof. I was about to take a picture, but I was worried that the people inside would think I was photographing them while they had their teeth cleaned, which is a compromising position in which no one wants to be seen by the outside world. I don't want to make anyone feel more self-conscious than they already are.
The people in the apartment above us are very noisy. Sometimes we try to guess what they're doing. It usually involves tumbling. At the moment it sounds like one person is vacuuming while the other is playing one of those metal mouth piano things and occasionally knocking over a lamp or a bong or something. I can't help thinking that most of the people who live here own some sort of pot weed smoking apparatus; the halls often reek of it (though not in a bad way). Also, so do most of the people I've actually met.
I've been spending way too much time sitting at the computer for the past couple of days. I shall attempt to work on something productive now. Toodles.

That project sounds like it'll be really cool, be sure to post photos of the final product if you can!
I got your postcard the other day, and it made me so happy! Thank you! It is currently displayed on my bulletin board of things that make me smile. Its funny, I live in Georgia but as a result have no idea where to go buy touristy postcards... but for you, I will find them!
P.S. my skinny leg jeans still haven't even shipped yet, and I ordered them on January 13th D:
Hope you're still enjoying yours!
